SF/East Bay WILPF Action Plan for 2025
At our March monthly meeting, our two branches discussed plans for our work for peace and justice in 2025.
The major issue that our branches will be working on this year will be
Nuclear Disarmament and the Environment
We will be supporting, educating and pressuring the United States government to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and to convert nuclear weapons industry resources to purposes related to addressing the climate crisis.
A total of 197 states may become parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, including all 193 member states of the United Nations, the Holy See, the State of Palestine, the Cook Islands, and Niue. As of September 2024, 73 states have ratified or acceded to the treaty, most recently Indonesia, Sierra Leone, and the Solomon Islands.
Lobbying our Congress members to support Eleanor Holmes Norton Bill HR 1888, calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and asking Congress to vote to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons,.
ACTION: Contact your Congresswoman, Nancy Pelosi in SF and Lateefah Simon in the East Bay, encourage them to support HR 1888 and ask for a response.
Direct efforts on college campuses and other locations to educate people about nuclear issues and to ask them to sign the TPNW Petition.
Explore reaching out to WILPF sections in countries who have ratified the TPNW, write to them to express our appreciation for their anti-nuclear work, and try to create communication between our branches and sections around the world.
Increase involvement and coalition work with other anti-nuclear organizations, including TriValley CAREs, Western States Legal Foundation, Veterans for Peace Nuclear Abolition Working Group , International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and others.
Plan events for the 80th Anniversary of the Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and for Fleet Week in San Francisco in October. Educating and supporting demonstrations protesting missile testing at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
We will also continue in 2025 to work on local issues, including:
Before Enlisting – counter-recruitment work in the high schools
Bayview/Hunters Point – working for environmental justice in that community
San Francisco Police and Sheriff’s Department – monitoring and working to reduce the use of military equipment by SF law enforcement
San Francisco Board of Supervisors – working to restore public comment at SF Board of Supervisors meetings.

New Executive Director of WILPF US
The Lloyd Family Legacy Search Committee is thrilled to share that WILPF US has hired Linda Low as our new Executive Director. Linda is based in Seattle, WA and brings an impressive range of complementary skills and experiences to the role, equipping her to fully step into her leadership as the next Executive Director of WILPF US.
We asked Linda what her top priorities will be when she starts as the Executive Director. Her response did not disappoint:
“In these times we’re in, I am both grateful and excited to be joining WILPF. I understand that WILPF women are strong and bold, and I look forward to mobilizing this feminist power to rejuvenate, mobilize with allies across generations, and continue to do impactful work together. The events taking shape around us are disheartening, yet WILPF is one of the rare voices that won’t back down on the issues we care about. As I step into the executive director role, I am inspired and energized to tackle the big challenges that we must face together to meet this moment.
